News from the Women of the ELCA (from October2009 newsletter )

JANE KELLEY AND BECKY ROBERTS HAVE BEEN COLLECTING LUTHERAN HOME AUXILIARY MEMBERSHIPS. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THEM, THEY ARE IN THE USUAL PLACE – ELEVATOR NARTHEX.
Yes, they have started earlier, so if you can stop by they would be very appreciative. St. John’s has supported The National Lutheran Home in Rockville, Maryland in various ways for many years. One of the events that the auxiliary sponsors is their fall trip to Martinsburg. If you have not come and helped with this you really should. It is a wonderful day and a great experience for all. This years event will take place on October 12. We need servers, men to help get residents off and back on the bus, bathroom helpers, people to help with clean-up. Let BettyLou Boynton know if you would like to help.

At our Planning Meeting on September 2 we decided to continue our support of Lutheran Lines (Synodical newsletter) with our donation of $75. We also spent $700 of our Thrivent money left from last years fundraisers. We gave $200 to Tour de Revs and $500 to Friends Feeding Friends. We have $688.94 left. In August by a phone call vote we agreed to fund The Mustard Seed’s Christian Studies Program out of regular funds for a total of $314.87. We will also purchase quarterly material at a cost of $90.
We also decided this year to ask for Thrivent Funding for the Apple Harvest Parade Food Sale only. All the money earned and given by Thrivent must be used for community organizations. This will allow us to use the Soup and Sandwich Sale money for church related items such as Synodical Scholarship Fund for Women Seminary students, Mustard Seed, FLYTE, Library , Kitchen Fund etc.
The Bible Study Group has started meeting again at 1:00PM in the Lounge. We will be starting the Book of 1Samuel. Bring your favorite Bible and come join us!
The Glad-Abouts Arts and Crafts Group meets at 10:00AM in the Lounge on Tuesday mornings. They are now working on the National Lutheran Home Luncheon. They will also have a table at our Soup and Sandwich Sale. IF YOU HAVE CRAFTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE I KNOW IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED! NEW PRICE ON SCRUBBIES: 75¢ OR 3 FOR $2. They will also be working on Christmas gifts for our shut-ins. As you can see they are very busy! You are welcome to come and join them. You don’t have to be “crafty.” Sometimes they just need someone who can cut things out. They are also working on quilts with tops that Ethel Kelley has embroidered!
