Raise the Lift

On December 7, the congregation voted to approve spending the money necessary to repair the elevator in the church. When the cost estimates were given, many members expressed a concern that paying for the repairs out of the church’s savings would further accelerate the depletion of these accounts. With that in mind, members were advised that a fund-raising effort would be undertaken to offset the amounts taken from savings. Thus, we announce the “Raise the Lift Campaign.”
Here’s how it will work: The cost of repairing the elevator is approximately equal to six weeks’ of offering. This is a large sum, and there are many in the church who can not afford to make a large, one-time contribution. Therefore, we are spreading the campaign over a period of six months.
We are designating the third Sunday of each of the first six months of 2009 as “Raise the Lift” Sunday. On each of those Sundays, we ask that each member make two separate contributions the church. The first will be the member’s regular offering. The second will be the “Raise the Lift” offering.
The church has not attempted any specific fund raising efforts to pay for its recent repairs or improvements. We believe that this campaign is a good first step in an attempt to restore responsible financial stewardship.
