Friends Feeding Friends
Social Ministry Proposal
February 2, 2009

 Mission Statement: Believing all are children of God and acknowledging many are going hungry in our community, we the Social Ministry Committee commit to aid individuals and families in need by providing free meals.  Inspired by scripture Deuteronomy 15:11,"There will always be poor people in the land.  Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land."  And adhering to St. John's Constitution, the Social Ministry Committee brings before the church council the following proposal for approval:

 Proposal:  Pilot program of providing one free meal the fourth Saturday of each month 11am-1pm starting February 28,2009 through May 23,2009, to be known as "Friends Feeding Friends".  During this time the program will be evaluated as to:

    1) Need

     2) Response of community

     3) Response of congregation

     4) Cost vs. Donation

After the four month period the committee will request one of the following:

     1) continue program as is

     2) continue program by adding additional Saturdays

     3) continue program as is and solicit downtown churches (not previously providing food service) for interdenominational cooperative meal program for every Saturday of the month

Logistics: Location: Luther Hall

                Time: 11am-1pm

                Date: the fourth Saturday of each month, February-May

Food and Supplies- Donations will be solicited from local grocery stores, food vendors, and church members along with applying for grant from Synod World Hunger Appeal and Hunters and Farmers feeding Americans

 Safety: Clients to enter via Martin Street entrance by ringing door bell

            Greeter to direct individuals in Luther Hall

            Clients will be seated and served

            Handicap bathroom to be open- all other doors in Luther Hall to be closed and where possible locked

            (Committee members will be responsible for post luncheon bathroom cleaning)

Social Committee members agree to set-up, cook, serve, clean-up, obtain food and provide an environment of mutual respect, acceptance and Christian Love.
